Shadow is a loving and resilient dog who has overcome many obstacles to find her forever home. She's an estimated 8 years old and weighs around 50 pounds, but don't let her age fool you – she has the energy and spirit of a much younger dog! Shadow is heartworm negative, up-to-date on her vaccinations, and has been spayed.
She spent a long time at the shelter, often overlooked due to breed stereotypes. Thankfully, a loving foster stepped in to save her life, but she's still patiently waiting for a permanent family. Shadow is ready to be someone's devoted companion, and with the right person, she'll be a seriously wonderful addition to the family. She will be supported by us for life!
Ideal Home
Shadow thrives in a home where she can be the sole focus of your attention. She's not a fan of dog parks or meeting other dogs on leash. Her ideal handler is confident and understands dog body language, ready to help her navigate her anxieties with patience and positive reinforcement. She loves kids and has been tested positively with them!
Ongoing Health
Shadow is heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccines, and spayed. She is currently being managed for anxiety and reactivity and has been prescribed trazadone, but is being trained drug-free.
Training & Support
Shadow has a bite history involving a small dog and an off-leash dog, both incidents being preventable by a responsible handler. She has a prey drive for small animals and is easily redirected. She is very food motivated and loves enrichment toys. A confident handler is needed to help her self-soothe and relax, which she does well with leash work and enrichment activities. Adopters will have lifetime access to her trainer for support and guidance on managing her anxiety and overall well-being.
