About Shelby

Shelby is a 6-month-old, spayed female Shepherd/Hound/Terrier mix who currently weighs 39 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. She has a long body type and is a happy, goofy, and affectionate puppy with a playful spirit. Shelby was rescued with her mom and sister from a shelter in San Antonio, Texas, after spending 40 days there. She has truly thrived in foster care and is now ready for her forever home.

Shelby is a curious, playful, smart, silly, and affectionate dog who loves being held, hugged, and snuggled. Her goofy smile and gentle nature make her incredibly endearing. She enjoys crinkly toys, balls, and playing fetch. While initially timid with strangers, she has grown more confident and now walks past people calmly. Shelby rides well in the car and generally stays settled in the back seat. She used to struggle with stairs but now confidently navigates them on her own. She loves splashing in puddles and discovering new things, and watching her experience the world is both entertaining and heartwarming.

Ideal Home

Shelby would thrive in an active home that enjoys a dog's companionship and attention, is patient with puppy training, and wants an active, affectionate family member. She wants to be included in all family adventures, whether it's hiking, walking, playing in the yard, or simply spending time together.

Ongoing Health

Shelby is up to date on vaccinations and has been spayed.

Training & Support

Shelby is still learning house training but has made significant progress and is expected to master it quickly with consistency. She sleeps through the night in her crate and tolerates it, though she prefers to be near her people and other dogs. She may bark briefly when crated during the day but will settle. Shelby should not be crated excessively as she is social. She eats enthusiastically and would benefit from a slow feeder. While she has shown mild growling with her sister, it appears related to puppy competition for attention rather than true resource guarding. She has learned to sit, walks nicely on a harness, and plays appropriately with toys and bones. Continued basic training is recommended.
