About STANLEY

Meet Stanley, a handsome 7-year-old, 34-pound tri-color Jack Russell Terrier mix who is searching for a dedicated home. Stanley was adopted once before due to his charm but was returned due to an unexpected eviction. He's a fantastic mix of adventurer and cuddle bug, enjoying hikes and outdoor activities just as much as he loves to relax on the couch. Stanley is deeply affectionate and loyal, always wanting to be by your side for pets and belly rubs. He truly shines with women, but he can be reserved around men and would do best in a female-only household. Stanley has a history of good behavior, even with cats and smaller dogs, and in shelter playgroups, he was tolerant and gave polite corrections when needed. He has so much love to give and can be the most devoted companion to the right person.

Ideal Home

Stanley would thrive in a female-only household where he can be the sole focus of affection. He would do best as the only pet or with cats or other small dogs, provided there are careful introductions. He needs an experienced handler who can provide structure and safety, as he can be protective of strangers and bark until he gets to know them. Given his bite history and resource-guarding tendencies with larger dogs, he should not attend dog parks or other uncontrolled environments.

Ongoing Health

Stanley has a history of separation anxiety, which is managed with Trazodone. He also shows signs of spine pain and sensitivity when his neck is touched, possibly due to an old injury. He is currently being evaluated by the clinic to determine any underlying medical issues. Handlers should be mindful and gentle around his neck area.

Training & Support

Stanley has a bite history, including an incident where he ran out of an open dog park gate and bit a passing man, and a redirection bite to a hand during an altercation with another dog. He can also be jealous of larger dogs when receiving attention and shows resource-guarding tendencies. He needs an experienced owner to help manage these behaviors. Muzzle training is strongly recommended for introductions and any necessary close interactions with new people. He should be secured in a crate or a safe room when guests are expected or when re-entering the home to ensure calm and predictable transitions. Walks should be in low-traffic, quiet areas.
