Murphy is a 4-year-old, 100-pound Great Pyrenees who is a faithful and solid companion for the right person or family. He is a sensible, serious, and introverted boy who lives to guard his humans and their home. Murphy can learn to accept new people and pets with time and respect, and he enjoys being with his humans, napping, and alerting to anything unusual. He came to us in April 2022, and after spending time in foster care with another dog and younger children, he was adopted in February 2023. He has since lived as a single dog with older kids, and it seems he has struggled a bit in that environment. He is a typical Great Pyrenees who will be your personal bodyguard. If you are in search of a big dog who will keep you safe, Murphy might be your perfect match!
Ideal Home
Murphy would do best in an adult-only home. He does not enjoy playing, loud noises, new places, or chaos. He needs a securely fenced yard and enjoys regular car rides. He can be fine with cats and dogs if they are respectful of his boundaries, and he may even play with them a little.
Ongoing Health
Murphy is generally healthy and easy to care for, only needing grooming a few times a year.
Training & Support
Murphy is very large and strong, so the person holding his leash needs to be a match for his strength. He demands respectful treatment from all people. He is not a children's toy and may seem silly at times, but he is a serious fellow. He is lazy but tolerates a 10-15 minute walk a couple of times daily. He rides well in vehicles and does not steal food or chew things.
