Meet Theo! This sweet 2-year-old, 47lb gentleman is looking for a patient and loving home to help him blossom. Theo came to us from another rescue that needed assistance, and while we don't know the details of his past, it's clear he's had a tough go of it. Despite his history, Theo is incredibly gentle, takes treats delicately, loves his toys, and is wonderfully quiet – he's not much of a barker at all! He's also crate trained and finds comfort in his own safe space.
Ideal Home
Theo currently lives with older children (7+) and does well because they are gentle and respectful of his space. He would thrive in a home where everyone understands and honors his need to approach people for affection on his own terms. He's even been around chickens and leaves them completely alone, though squirrels might be a bit too exciting for him! Theo absolutely thrives with a confident, friendly canine companion who can show him the ropes and help him feel safe. A calm home environment is key for Theo.
Ongoing Health
All dogs from Fetching Hearts Rescue receive a thorough veterinary examination, annual vaccinations (Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella), heartworm testing, fecal testing, deworming, microchipping, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, and are spayed/neutered. They also undergo a two-week quarantine period to ensure they are healthy. If a dog is treated for heartworm, they may test positive for up to 4-6 months after treatment. They are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin to kill larvae and should be re-tested 5-6 months after the last treatment. Fetching Hearts Rescue vets dogs thoroughly based on communication with their Southern vets. Any issues are treated, but follow-up vetting is the adopter's responsibility.
Training & Support
Theo will need a patient and understanding family willing to let him move at his own pace and help him build confidence. A commitment to working with a behavioral trainer will be essential to help him truly blossom into the happy dog we know he can be.
