Lucy is a 3.5-year-old, 33lb female Lab/American Bulldog mix with a big heart and a silly personality, ready to shine in the right home! She has overcome a very difficult past filled with abuse and neglect, which has left her with some trust issues and anxiety. Despite her challenges, Lucy has made incredible progress thanks to her foster mom, who is a professional dog trainer. Lucy is athletic and could excel in activities like agility or lure coursing, but for now, she's happy to show off her skills in the comfort of her own backyard. She gives the best kisses once she feels safe and truly opens up to those she trusts, revealing her comedic side.
Ideal Home
Lucy would thrive in a home with a patient, kind, and understanding adopter who can give her the time and space she needs to warm up. A clear leader who can provide gentle guidance would be ideal. She needs a home with a yard and would do best with older children. Lucy is sensitive to corrections, so positive reinforcement is key. She needs a home that understands dog behavior and is willing to work with her. Lucy cannot live in an apartment.
Ongoing Health
Lucy takes Prozac daily to help manage her anxiety.
Training & Support
Lucy is house and crate trained but may have accidents if left alone for more than approximately 8 hours. She also tends to shred blankets when left unattended for extended periods. She is unaware of her requests to go outside if her cues are missed. Lucy is wary of unexpected noises and movements and can respond with fear and defensiveness. While she doesn't react negatively to people or dogs on walks, she is aware of startling stimuli. Lucy can be somewhat food aggressive with other dogs. She needs slow introductions to other dogs and prefers those who are mild-mannered and respectful of her space. She loves playing with dogs she trusts and gains confidence from them. She is not a fan of growl play and needs dogs that will ignore her or give her space initially.
