Roland is a 90-pound, approximately 10-year-old hound mix and a true old soul. He loves people, enjoys walks, and is food motivated. He can be convinced to move from the couch, but he may pull on leash and should be kept securely crated.

Ideal Home

Roland would do best with an experienced dog owner and an adult-only, single-dog home. He may be comfortable living with a calm cat. His family should be patient and willing to understand and manage his quirks. Lower-energy people and pets are the best match for him.

Roland can become moody around people, animals, food, and spaces because he has not always known where his next meal would come from. Loud noises may spook him, especially when he is alone, and the kitchen is best kept off-limits because he may help himself to treats.

Ongoing Health

Roland tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving at the rescue and was treated before transport north. His adopters will receive detailed information from OPH's heartworm coordinator about completing his recovery. Monthly preventatives help prevent heartworm disease.

Training & Support

Roland is crate trained, though his crate should be secured. His foster dad has worked hard with him, and he has made significant progress. His adoption includes six virtual sessions with a certified trainer during his first 60 days.
