Florence, affectionately nicknamed Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, is a playful and energetic 3-year-old Carolina Dog mix, weighing in at 46 pounds. She's a bundle of energy who loves to wrestle and be chased, and would do best in a home with a canine companion of similar size and energy. Flora has experience playing with a variety of dog sizes and has shown a lot of affection towards the resident pup, Furman, by licking his face.
Ideal Home
Flora would thrive in a moderately active home where her owner is often around and can provide dedicated outdoor playtime. She would do best in a home with no other pets or a well-balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level, as she requires slow and guided introductions to other dogs and can be nervous around new children. An adult-only household might be ideal due to her stranger danger tendencies, especially with quick movements.
Ongoing Health
Flora is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. She has shown some anxiety in the crate at home, but is fine when boarded.
Training & Support
Flora exhibits some leash reactivity, such as raised hair, whimpering, and barking, and can get easily spooked, often pulling on the leash. While her foster parents have been working with her on these behaviors using positive reinforcement, she will need consistent training to help her with leash skills and build confidence around new dogs and stimuli. She needs reminders to take treats gently.
