Theodore (Jackson)

Theodore, affectionately known as Theo, is a 7-month-old, 22-pound neutered male Chihuahua mix currently in foster care in Houston, Texas. He is a goofy, affectionate, playful puppy with lots of energy, a silly personality, and a surprisingly good off-switch once he has had time to play.

Theo loves people, dogs, toys, tug-of-war, exploring, and zooming around the yard. He has done well with dogs up to about 40 pounds and would likely enjoy a confident, playful canine companion. He has been around children over five, including children with special needs, and has done well. He can be nervous with new people and dogs at first, but he is not aggressive and warms up with patience.

Ideal Home

• An active home that can provide regular exercise, play, training, and mental stimulation.
• A canine companion may be a wonderful fit for Theo.
• A home experienced with carefully acclimating dogs and cats, with the ability to separate them during the adjustment period. Theo has improved with cats but may try to play or chase them.
• Secure fencing and supervision are important because Theo is curious, clever, adventurous, and still learning leash skills.
• Food should be given separately from other pets, and high-value items should be monitored because Theo has shown mild resource-guarding tendencies around other animals. He has no issues with people handling food or taking items from him.

Theo is neutered and vaccinated. No medical conditions or health tests are reported.

Training & Support

Theo is still learning puppy skills, including potty training, crate training, leash walking, socialization, and basic manners. He can hold it through the night but needs frequent daytime opportunities to go outside. He may cry when confined to a crate, though he is making progress with gradual exposure and positive associations. He does better in a playpen, which should have secure barriers.
