A little about them
Sparkie is a 24-pound Rat Terrier mix estimated to be 6β8 years old. He is a fun, affectionate companion who loves playing fetch, tug, walks, cuddling under a blanket, and curling up beside his favorite person. He settles easily when asked, travels quietly in the car, and greets his people with a happy bum wiggle.
Ideal Home
Sparkie can be the only dog or live with respectful dogs. He has several dog friends but may be leash reactive, so introductions should be thoughtful. He does not care for cats. He enjoys respectful children as visitors but is not recommended for a busy home with frequent visitors, chaos, or crowds.
He is house trained, sleeps peacefully through the night, and does well alone for 5β6 hours without destructive behavior. Longer periods alone are unknown.
Ongoing Health
- Neutered and up to date on vaccinations
- Fully treated for heartworm and continuing prevention
- Currently weighs 24 pounds; his weight should be monitored because Rat Terriers can gain weight easily
- Comfortable during veterinary visits
- Low-maintenance short, shiny coat
- Cooperative with nail trimming when handled by someone experienced
Training & Support
Sparkie walks well on leash, learns quickly with routines, and is highly food motivated. He will work for kibble. He has shown resource guarding around high-value human food, but not around his own food. He had been crate trained and could be reintroduced to a crate, although he currently prefers sleeping beside his favorite person.
